Thesis

The word 'thesis' is very often used interchangeably with the word 'dissertation', c.f. master's thesis or master's dissertation. 'Thesis' comes from the Greek language and originally means 'a proposition, a statement, an assumption'. Later on, the word 'thesis' was borrowed by the academics and has acquired another meaning: thesis as an academic 'assumption', supported by evidence, either coming from analysis of the collected data or based on works of other scientists.
