Understanding the Qualities of a Good Research Paper in Order to Come Up with One
All good things in this world have qualities. In fact it is by having these qualities that some things are referred to as good, perfect even sometimes. Term papers are not an exception. There are some things people judge a thesis against in order to judge it a good research paper.
Knowledge on the quality of a good research paper is a must for both students and teachers. Teachers must know these qualities in order to have a standard for grading term papers, while students can benefit from this knowledge by being able to come up with good papers that can merit them a good mark.
These are the qualities of a good research paper: First it must be a product of in depth and thorough research using several good sources. Second, it must display a mastery or deep understanding of the subject matter. Lastly, a good research paper is well written, structured and organized.
Each quality or requirement will be discussed in depth in the following sections.
Deep and Thoroughly Researched
The information detailed within a term paper is an amalgam of information presented by earlier existing sources. Thus, a good research paper should be well-researched. One should use only high quality sources, that is, the information presented should come from an established authority on the subject. One or two sources are not enough. The more sources you refer to, the better it would be for you.
A high quality term paper also should have the proper citations for the sources of information in which it presents. This is to give proper credit to the source and to avoid plagiarizing.
Mastery of the Subject Matter
A student should not cite or copy too much information from their sources. To show that the writer understood what he is studying about, a good research paper presents already existing information in words that are original and not a copy of the source.
As much as possible, you should present a good research paper in your own words. If you have to, use quotes to present your source’s data verbatim or excerpted.
Structure and Organization
A good research paper follows a strict and logical structure according to the needs of the research. The information should be arranged in a way that a reader learns more about the topic through a flow. Break down your data into sections, where you discuss in-depth one aspect of the research separately. These sections make it easy for your reader to know where to go for certain information.
