APA Research Paper

Citing non-print material in an APA research paper can be challenging. If you were using a movie as a source in your APA research paper the citation would appear as follows; producer name, director’s name, film title, city of origin, studio and release date. If the film you are citing in the APA research paper were of limited release then you would also include where the film could be obtained.  Citing a television series is also similar to citing a movie in an APA research paper. The producer’s name appears first, then the television series title, city of origin and studio or distributor. If you were citing a specific episode than the citation would be different in your APA research paper. The writer’s name would be presented first, then the director, episode title, producer, series title, country of origin and studio.

A music recording also has its own format in an APA research paper. The songwriter is considered the author, the date of copyright comes after the songwriters name, followed by the song title, artist who recorded the piece, Title of the album, the location and label information. Interview, e-mail and other forms of personal communication are not included in the works cited section of an APA research paper. The communicators name and date of communication will appear as parenthetical citations in the body of your text with no reference at the end of the APA research paper.

It is not often that you will cite non-print material in an APA research paper but there are occasion when this will occur. Documentaries can be particularly useful depending on you topic choice and much information can be obtained from films. However non-print material is not a first choice for sources, as many professors would prefer information from journals or texts. The authenticity of information from movies can be suspect so be careful when using them as source.
